Recently,  I had the opportunity to interview Mike Wells. Mike is a 10th grader at New Castle Senior High School.  Mike participates in  football, basketball, and track. I met up with Mike after practice and he shared his thoughts on basketball.

QUESTION: Why do you like basketball?

Mike Wells: I like basketball because it was just something I did my whole life and I got decently good at it and I started feeling obligated to play but it brings me love and joy. And maybe one day it could give me a college scholarship.

QUESTION: What position do you play?

Mike Wells: Power Forward

QUESTION: Are you in the starting lineup?

Mike Wells: Yes

QUESTION: How long have you been playing basketball?

Mike Wells: Probably about 7 years now

QUESTION: How do you feel about your teammates?

Mike Wells: I feel very confident in them and I feel they always have my back. They’re all winning players so we will have a good winning season.

QUESTION: How well have you and your teammates been doing in conditioning?

Mike Wells: We have been doing really well these last few days. Everyone is showing mental toughness in getting the suicides done.

QUESTION:How well do you think the team will do this year?

Mike Wells: I think we will be great this year and win WPIALs again.

QUESTION: Do you look to any of your teammates for advice?

Mike Wells: Yeah, i look to some of the veterans because they have been there and know what they’re doing.

QUESTION: What made you decide to become a basketball player?

Mike Wells: Well I didn’t really decide, my parents just put me in it to see if I’d be good at it so I’d have something to do in the football offseason.

QUESTION: How do you prepare yourself for games?

Mike Wells: I listen to music and warm up.

Question: Do you feel pressure on yourself coming into this season? 

Mike Wells: Slightly but not that much because I have already played and had a good year. Pressure does come from me having a good year though, I feel like I need to meet the expectation I did last year.
