All-Star Weekend in Cleveland

The NBA All-Star Game this year is in Cleveland, Ohio starting Friday, February 11th.  The celebrity game kicks off the weekend on Friday, February 11th, followed by the Rising Stars game later that night. Saturday kicks off with All-Star game practice at 11, followed by the skills competition at 8.  Finally, Sunday features two games. The G-League game is at 2 pm, while the All-Star Game will begin at 8 pm.  There are also a few less popular events, including the NBA HBCU Classic on Saturday, and an NBA Legends Ceremony on Sunday.  Let’s take a look at who is participating in these events.  

Celebrity Game

The Celebrity Games features a ton of stars.  Team Allen’s roster is composed of plenty of celebrities, including Jimmie Allen, Brittney Elena, Machine Gun Kelly, Dearice Hamby, Noah Carlock, Nyjah Huston, Matt James, Quavo, Ranveer Singh, Alex Toussaint, and Anderson Varejao.  Team Nique features Anuel AA, Mayor Just Bibb, Kane Brown, Myles Garrett, Booby Gibson, Tiffany Haddish, Jack Harlow, Crissa Jackson, Anjali Ranadive, and Gianmarco Tamberi.  

Rising Stars Game

The Rising Stars game is composed of 4 teams, with rookies, sophomores, and G-League players.  Team Barry features Cade Cunningham, Dyson Daniels, Evan Mobley, Isaac Okoro, Alperen Sengun, Jae’Sean Tate, and Franz Wagner.  Team Isiah has Precious Achiuwa, Desmond Bane, Saddiq Bey, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Jaden Hardy, and Isaiah Stewart.  Team Payton drafted Lamelo Ball, Scottie Barnes, Ayo Dosunmu, Chris Duarte, Scoot Henderson, Jaden McDaniels, and Davion Mitchell.  Finally, Team Worthy has Cole Anthony, MarJon Beauchamp, Josh Giddey, Jalen Green, Herbert Jones, Tyrese Maxey, and Jalen Suggs.  The teams will each play twice, winners advancing with the undefeated team winning the championship.  

Skills Competition

The Skills Competition is the first of the events on Saturday night, along with the Dunk and 3-point contest.  Although the winning format is different, the competition is the same.  This event features 3 teams.  Team Antetokounmpo features Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Alex Antetokounmpo.  Team Cavs features Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland, and Evan Mobley.  Team Rooks has Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham, and Josh Giddey.  Scoring and winning are based on a point system.  

3-Point Contest

This is the middle event of Saturday.  The top 3 points scored will go to the championship, in which the highest scorer of that round wins.  The event features Fred VanVleet (Raptors), Desmond Bane (Grizzlies), Luke Kennard (Clippers), Zach LaVine (Bulls), CJ McCollum (Pelicans), Patty Mills (Nets), Karl-Anthony Towns (Timberwolves), Trae Young (Hawks).  

Dunk Contest

The dunk contest is the final event on Saturday.  The highest scorer after 3 rounds wins the event.  The event features Obi Toppin (Knicks), Jalen Green (Rockets), Cole Anthony (Magic), Juan Toscano-Anderson (Warriors).  

All-Star Game

This is the final event of the weekend.  The All-Star game competitors are the very best players in each of their respective conferences.  The players are Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Draymond Green, Rudy Gobert, Lebron James, Nikola Jokic, Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant, Dejounte Murray, Chris Paul, Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Lamelo Ball, Jimmy Butler, Demar Derozan, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Darius Garland, James Harden, Zach Lavine, Khris Middleton, Jayson Tatum, Fred Vanvleet, and Trae Young.  All-Star captains are Lebron James (Western), and Kevin Durant (Eastern).
