There’s No Stopping this Hurricane!
March 15, 2022
Despite falling to Laurel Highlands in the WPIAL Championship the New Castle Red Hurricanes are making a strong push in the PIAA State Playoffs.
In round 1 of the state playoffs the Canes battled the NorthEastern Bobcats, which they walked away with a 63-50 victory and advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs. They headed to Clarion University to play Central Mountain High School, which they finished their regular season with 14 wins and 12 losses. In the 2nd round of the playoffs the Hurricanes bulldozed their way through with a 85-34 win over Central Mount High School. The Hurricanes were lead by Senior Mike Wells who dropped 41 points, which was only a couple buckets shy of breaking a school history record. Wells dropped 41 pts in just 3 quarters of play and if he played all 4 quarters he would have easily had 50 points in that game.
With the big win, the Hurricanes advance to the Elite Eight and will face Penn Hills on March 15th at 6 pm, at Robert Morris University, where the Hurricanes will try to pick up where they left off in the blowout win over Central Mountain High School.
Laurel Highlands will face Gateway right after the New Castle/Penn Hills game. The winners of both games will play Friday, March 18th time and location TBA.
There ain’t no stopping this hurricane, grab your hats everyone, these canes are coming through like a destructive force, getting ready to ride that huge wave to Hershey! Go Canes!!
