College can be a tricky thing to get used to. Being out on your own in the world is a scary thing. Especially if you have never been alone before. Most college freshmen live on campus during their first year of school. It is a great way to learn the ways of the school, make amazing friends, and get to experience living on your own for the very first time. Since most students have never lived alone or experienced dorm life, they are going to want to be prepared and have the best dorm room possible. But how much stuff is too much? From what I have seen, most students will bring most of their wardrobe, a bunch of stuff from home, lots of decor, and just items, in general, you really just won’t need. At the end of the year, they probably end up throwing it out instead of stressing over packing everything to go home. Leaving your home is difficult, but you have to be realistic about what you bring to college. Your dorm room is probably going to be the size of your room at home, but if you have a roommate which you probably will, you need to cut the room in half so you both have equal space. Which means less room for all the unnecessary belonging you have brought from home. So after some research, I have come up with a list of things you may need as a college freshman. Now not every school is the same, so you can adjust your list however you like. This is just to get any student started and have a successful first year!

  • Britta or water purifying device
  • Hard shower caddy
  • Steripods or Toothbrush cover
  • Command hooks
  • Laundry basket with a removable liner
  • Desk organizers
  • Three-tiered cart
  • Extension cords
  • Air purifier
  • Robe
  • Shower shoes
  • Storage ottoman

One of the most common mistakes freshmen ever make is overpacking for college. So hopefully this list helps with some of the needs you should bring. From my research, a lot of students own and use these things on a daily basis and has really helped their college experience overall.
