Marissa Jackson, Author

We all have heard of unsolved mysteries. Maybe it’s a case that went cold over the years, maybe it’s a missing person that’s been missing for over a decade and still no trace of them, or maybe it’s a problem that has never been solved and has been forgotten about. Well here goes the top 5 unsolved mysteries people still might talk about to this day.

Coming up at Number 5: Ghost ship (The Mary Celeste)

In November 1872, the Mary Celeste set sail from New York bound heading to Genoa Italy. The ship was manned by Captain Benjamin Briggs and seven other crew members, including Briggs’ wife and their two-year-old daughter. Supplies on the boat could last them up to six months, and the boat was very luxurious. Commenters generally agree that the abandonment of a seaworthy ship, an alarming circumstance must have happened. On December 4, 1872, a British-American ship was found empty and adrift in the Atlantic ocean. Theories spread over the years like mutiny, pirate attacks, and even an assault by a giant octopus or sea monster.  We may never know what actually happened because no one on board was ever heard from again.

Coming up at Number 4: The Incident at Dyatlov Pass

February 1956, the first night nine ski-hikers passed away mysteriously in the mountains which are now Russia. The night of the incident, the group had set up camp on a slope, they all enjoyed dinner, and after they prepared for bed. But then something happened moments later, and the group was never heard from again. On February 26, searchers found the hikers abandoned tent, which had been ripped open from the inside. Surrounding the area were footprints that were left by the group. Some of them were wearing socks, some wearing a single shoe, some barefoot, and it continued to the edge of a nearby wood. The first two bodies were discovered there, they were shoe-less and wearing only underwear. The scene bore marks as hypothermia, but as medical examiners examined the bodies as well, as the other seven that were discovered over the months followed, hypothermia no longer made sense. All the evidence made no sense at all. Theories spread over the years like KGB interference, drug overdose, UFO attack, gravity anomalies, and the Russian version of the Yeti. Sadly this case is still unsolved and no one to this day knows what actually happened to the nine ski-hikers.

The Mutual UFO Network interviewed dozens of witnesses from this night. This event from March 8, 1994, remains unexplained. The possibilities of a small plane, weather balloon, gas, a blimp, shooting star, satellite, military aircraft, or debris have been ruled out.
