Shelby Norris, Author

I had the opportunity to sit with Mr. Gigler, one of the Math teachers here at New Castle. Hope you enjoy the interview.

Q-What grades do you teach?

I teach primarily 8th grade with a mix of high school students for my other classes

Q-What do you teach?

I teach math and computer applications

Q-Where did you go to college?

I went to Duquesne for 2 years and then I went to Slippery Rock for 3 years to finish my undergraduate and master’s.

Q-What are your degrees in?

I have a Bachelor’s in mathematics and I have a masters in secondary education

Q-How is your school year going?

It’s going decent, it started out a little hectic but from some new policy changes in the school the year is getting more manageable and enjoyable

Q-How long have you been teaching?

I’ve taught full for a little over 7 years and I did keystone tutoring and subbing for 2 years before that

Q-What made you want to be a teacher?

I think learning is a valuable thing and I wanted to help those who maybe don’t appreciate learning as much to appreciate as much as I do, also I was never the best at math so I wanted to teach people the ways I learned it, I feel like I have a unique approach to teaching because of that.
