Every year a committee determines which teams make the College Football Playoff. This past Sunday, the teams in the College Football Playoff for 2023 were announced. First here are the teams that won their conference championship in the Power 5.

Big 10: Michigan 26 vs Iowa 0

ACC: FSU 16 vs Louisville 6

SEC: Alabama 27 vs Georgia 24

Pac-12: Washington 34 vs Oregon 31

Big 12: Texas 49 vs Oklahoma State 21  

Only four teams can be in the Playoff. Next season there will be a 12-team playoff. As people were watching the CFP Selection Show, it was clear Michigan and Washington were gonna be in after their undefeated season and they both won their conference championship. Michigan and Washington were ranked 1st and 2nd. After Texas’s big win over Oklahoma State, it was gonna be interesting to see if they were gonna be in. Texas made it in at 3rd. This left 3 teams for the final spot. Florida State went undefeated this season and won their conference championship, but with the injury to their star quarterback Jordan Travis, it was gonna be interesting to see if they would be in. They struggled in their championship game against Louisville but they won 6-16. Alabama had only one loss this season and beat Georgia in the SEC Championship and snapped Georgia’s 29-game winning streak. Their quarterback Jalen Milroe was in command of the offense and their defense was elite. Georgia lost one game this season to Alabama and they were ranked 1st overall before the game. Alabama was 4th for the final spot in the College Playoff. It was a shock to most people due to Florida State going undefeated this season. The injury to Jordan Travis made it hard for the committee to put Florida State in, especially after seeing the close game with Louisville. It was a hard decision but I believe they made the right choice. It just wasn’t going to be a competitive game with Michigan. 

Here are the Final Rankings: 

1. Michigan 
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama

First 2 teams out:

5: Florida State

6. Georgia

Michigan and Alabama will play in the Rose Bowl on January 1st, 2024 at 5 PM ET. Washington and Texas will play in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st, 2024 at 8:45 PM ET. These two games will determine who will play in the National Championship. My prediction is Alabama vs Texas. Alabama and Michigan will be a close game but after Alabama beat Georgia in the SEC Championship I believe they can beat Michigan as well. Texas will be able to easily beat Washington, their offense has been the best it has been the whole season. Texas beat Alabama early in the season so it would be a great rematch.
