Tyrese Austin has become somewhat of a celebrity at NE-CA-HI and in the community as well.  In April of 2017, he became a manager of the Red Hurricane football team and hasn’t looked back since.  Tyrese is an extremely hard worker, has a great personality, and is always thinking of others and putting them before himself.  After assisting the football team, he furthered his managing career with the basketball team, and achieved one of his goals going into the season: winning a WPIAL championship.  With one year of managing under his belt, Tyrese hopes he can return and continue to help out the Canes for another year.  If you’re ever looking for Tyrese, you will probably find him in Mr. Birtalan’s room, where he’s cracking jokes with Coach Minenok and Mr. Birtalan.  He is very laid back, reserved, kind, and impossible to not come along with.  Before his days in high school are officially over, I had a chance to catch up with him and reflect on his days at NE-CA-HI.

Q: Are you excited to graduate?

Tyrese: Not really, I’ll miss helping out the team.

Q: How does it feel to be a senior?

Tyrese: Great!  Time flies.

Q: Who inspired you to become a manager of the football and basketball team?

Tyrese: Coach Min.  He said I should help out so I could earn pins for my letterman jacket.

Q: What teachers did you look up to while you were here?

Tyrese: Mr. Abraham, Mr. Birtalan, Coach Min, Coach Blundo, Coach Natale, and Coach Doneluck.

Q: What was your favorite memory from football and basketball?

Tyrese: Having a great time and winning the WPIAL championship.

Q: What did you like better: football or basketball?

Tyrese: Basketball because we won the WPIAL championship.

After three years of high school, Tyrese’s work in the classroom paid off when he got his opportunity to be a part of the football and basketball teams.  Now after two seasons of hard work, he’ll finally get to show off his letterman pins, his WPIAL championship ring, and best of all…the privilege to proudly call himself a Red Hurricane.
