The two time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguin’s season came to an end in round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, to the Washington Capitals. The two time reigning champions finished the regular season with an incredible record of 47-29-6 and continued their run to the 2nd round of the playoffs being defeated by the Washington Capitals, a rival the penguins defeated in the playoffs in their two previous Stanley Cup runs. The Penguins and Capitals have a long history as Pittsburgh knocked off the Caps in 7 games and went on to win the Cup in 2017.

The Penguins clinched a playoff birth yet again and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in 6 games, before their frustrating defeat the next series. Pittsburgh players Evgeni Malkin, and Sidney Crosby both made the top 10 in points for the league this year and played the main role in the teams success of making the playoffs. Malkin led the team in goals scoring 42 in just the course of the regular season. Crosby led the team in assists with 60. The Penguins will prepare for the next season and should be expected to go on another exciting run.
