The United States has been struck recently with by hurricanes in both Florida and Texas.   Government response has been incredible give the scope and magnitude of the destruction.  FEMA is the government agency responsible for allocating resources and supplies for the areas impacted. FEMA (Federal Management Agency) is a Emergency Department within the United States Department of Homeland Security. It was established on April 1, 1979 by Jimmy Carter and Zbigniew Brzezinski. The purpose of FEMA was to coordinate the response to a disaster that has occurred in the United States and that Overwhelms the resources used by local and state authorities. In order for FEMA to be involved with a disaster the Governor of the state must declare a State of Emergency and formally request from the president that FEMA and the federal government respond to the disaster and assist them. FEMA provides state and local government and with experts specialized in those fields and funding to rebuild efforts and  relieve funds. FEMA’s Mitigation Directorate is responsible for programs that take action before a disaster, in order to identify risks and reduce injuries, loss of property, and recovery time. FEMA has major analysis programs for floods, hurricanes and tropical storms, dams, and earthquakes and other disasters.  FEMA Corps, which has people who range in ages from 18–24 years old, is a dedicated to disaster response and recovery. It is a new partnership between The Corporation for National and Community Service’s AmeriCorps and FEMA. For 39 years, FEMA’s mission goals remain to lead America to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from disasters with a vision of “A Nation Prepared.”

The tips that FEMA gives residents of a potential disaster area go as follow. FEMA advises that if asked to evacuate to evacuate and not stay where you are. Another tip is to make an Emergency Kit that includes local maps, Food,Flashlights, Radio, Medical supplies. Also the encourage people to have a family communication plan in case if they get separated from one another during a disaster. They also want people to know their risks during a disaster so they know what will happen to them.
