The marching band is a great aspect of any New Castle football game. Every half-time there is a fantastic show full of music, flag-waving, and dancing. How does it all come together? Who are the people that keep the band and the auxiliaries on tempo? Other than the two band directors, Nick Yoho and John Onufrak, there are two specially selected people who audition for the role of a drum major.

Caeley Hovanek and my brother, Eric Groves, were the two people who landed the drum major position. They were selected by Nick Yoho and a number of judges. The audition required you to be able to conduct in-tempo and also to be loud and assertive for the band to hear you. They were asked why they wanted to be drum majors and their answers had to be unselfish and considerate for the well-being and improvement of the band.
