Yamato: Hibachi in New Castle

Gavin Joyce, Feature Editor

Recently I visited, in the Union Square Plaza, a new Hibachi restaurant. Yamato is a hibachi restaurant new to our city. Here you can find anything from sushi, soup, bento boxes, to hibachi steak and chicken.

I had the opportunity to visit this fine establishment on the opening day. The aesthetics of the restaurant are very pleasing to the eye. The light fixtures represent umbrellas and there is no shortage of self promotion. The interior is designed with a dark wood complimented by lighter white and grey colors. Everything about this place made it feel like I was eating at a luxury restaurant for a fraction of the price!

The food here blew me away. I had the hibachi chicken, which comes with rice, chicken, soup, a salad, and an array of vegetables. The service was great, from the second that I walked in the door to the second I left there was a member of staff checking to see how everything was going. There was no shortage of service here, and they made sure to get you in and out at your own pace.

Just to be safe, I also decided to try takeout from this location to ensure the same quality. At first I had very high hopes, my food got out to me fast and they did not leave me waiting. When I got home however, I was disappointed for the most part. This time I decided to get the steak and shrimp. When I went to try my steak, I was disappointed when it was not under-cooked, but just cold. They also forgot to give me the sauce that I requested over the phone. All in all this is still a good restaurant for the price, quality, and taste.
