Houston Astros Acting Unfairly

Sam Cwynar, Senior Editor of Operations

Well, this doesn’t surprise me. Last night, there were rumors circulating on the internet of the Houston Astros cheating in 2017, their World Series Championship year.

How did they cheat you ask? Let me explain. The Astros implanted a very high tech camera in dead center field 420 ft away from home plate. They would use this camera to steal the signs from the catchers on the opposing team. When the Astros figured out what sign went with what pitch, a loud boom would come from the Astros dugout. This boom indicated to the Astros hitter what pitch was coming next.

For example, when the opposing catcher called for a changeup next, there would be two booms from the Astros dugout indicating that a changeup was next and to lay off the pitch. This is dirty play in baseball and is ILLEGAL according to the official MLB rule book. This scandal all started when former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers admitted to the press that back in 2017, the Houston Astros placed hidden cameras along the center field wall. Since the (Mike) Fiers Report came out, the New York Yankees also came out saying they heard whistling come from manager AJ Hinch from the dugout when certain pitches were thrown. This claim also supports that the Houston Astros are cheating.

How should MLB punish them if found guilty?

Well in a perfect world, they would strip them of their only World Series Championship (2017). I can’t see that happening sadly, but I do see some sort of punishment inbound. In reality, AJ Hinch would be suspended for a certain amount of games. The owner and GM could also see heavy punishments and fines. I also believe they should strip 2nd baseman Jose Altuve of his 2017 American League MVP award. There is no way that he could have been that successful in the batters box if he had not known to take certain pitches. I am not taking away the talent he has the because he is a very good player and does a lot for the community on and off the field. I just believe the whole team should be punished if found guilty of cheating.
