Pirates Hire New Coach, Derek Shelton

On the afternoon of Wednesday November 27, 2019 the Pittsburgh Pirates announced Derek Shelton as the manager for the 2020 season. Shelton is the 41st manager in Pirates history. Derek has fifteen years of coaching experience. The last prior tw0 years he was the bench coach of the Minnesota Twins. In 1997, Shelton began his coaching career with the GCL Yankees, minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees. In 2000, he was named the official coach of the GCL Yankees. Five years later in 2005, he began his big league career with the Cleveland Indians as a hitting coach. Later down the road in 2010, Shelton was named hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2017, Derek Shelton was named quality control coach with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2018 he was named the bench coach of the Minnesota Twins. Now in 2019, he is named manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2020 season. I am excited to see what Derek Shelton can do for the Pittsburgh Pirates this upcoming season.
