A Season to Remember

Dominic Cade, Sophomore Reporter

This first game of tip-off was played on Friday, December 11, as Coach Blundo’s  Red Hurricanes pulled out a victory over Kennedy Catholic  89-71. Prior to the game, however, Governor Tom Wolf issued a temporary pause on all Pennsylvania high school sports for three weeks, shutting down the state. After months of practice, conditioning, and skill training, The Hurricane season was forced to come to an aprubt halt.

Today I have come to seek reactions from players, just as the momentum of the season was beginning.  I had the opportunity to speak with Senior Donny Cade, and gain his reactions to this unprecedented season.

Question : What was initial reaction after hearing the governor’s announcement to pause all sports?

Answer: “Since I play three sports, unfortunately, I’ve become used to the interruptions in my sports schedule.  This season has been like no other, and although disappointing, it is what it is. I am hopeful by the end of the season, my friends, family, and fans will be allowed in to watch our team’s hard-work and get to cheer us on once again.”

Question : What do you feel you have learned from this 2020 year.

Answer:  “Nothing is ever a guaranteed in life. This year has proven that.”

Question:  How will you approach each game this season?

Answer:  “Unfortunately, I have to consider each game my last, and play as if it is. There is never a guarantee game to game, or even practice to practice.  It is easy to get upset, but it is the hand our team was dealt and especially our senior class was dealt.  Hopefully, it will make us all stronger in the process.”

Question:  How are you planning to stay in shape on this break?

Answer:  “I complete daily workouts on my own, including running and conditioning.  We need to keep up our energy and speed up, due to the type of basketball that our  Red Hurricanes team executes.”

Even though we are not in the stands, we are still cheering you on! It is a year like no other, but we all must come together to overcome it. Thank you to Donny and good luck to our Running Red Hurricane basketball team.
