Ways to Contribute During the Upcoming Holidays
November 16, 2021
Is it too early to start thinking about the holidays? As you can see we are just rolling into the holiday season! All the stores are ready for Christmas and all the kids are getting ready for their breaks! The first break is Thanksgiving, November 24th-30th, a nice long week to spend with your family eating turkey on Thanksgiving or getting ready for Black Friday shopping.
The second break coming in December is Christmas, December 18th- January 3rd. This might include sitting around the Christmas tree opening presents, drinking hot chocolate, and counting down the New Year with your favorite people.
Being surrounded by the people you love, with a delicious feast in front of you, and many presents to last a lifetime is such a wonderful feeling. This makes you forget about how some people aren’t as lucky. People all around the world struggle around the holiday time. A lot of people may not get the perfect holiday or even have a holiday. Here are a few things you can do to spread a little kindness to those in need around the holiday times. You never know, you may just some make someone’s holiday unforgettable.
- Volunteer at a homeless shelter
- Donate to toys for tots, Make a Wish, etc.
- Make lunches and give them to those who need it
- Clean out your closet and give the clothes you don’t wear to someone who needs it
- Offer to buy someone their lunch
- Teach younger kids about hunger so more people are educated
- Visit a nursing home
- Adopt a family
- Babysit or wrap gifts for donations
- Start your own food drive and donate to a food bank
- Host a party for donations
- Tackle a bigger cause
- Always round up your total at checkout
- Take a look around your house and donate what you don’t need
- Make cookies, casseroles, etc. for your neighbors, co-workers, etc.
- Buy a family their Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner
There are so many ways to make someone’s holiday a little brighter and these are only a few ways to get you started. If everyone does at least one for as little as $1, we can end up making someone’s day or even year. Always remember these can be done all year round. People need help all year, not just during the holiday season. Doing a couple of these throughout the year can make you and someone else feel very humble.
