New Year, Same Old Ways

This past Sunday, thirty-three-year-old football player Antonio Brown quit mid-game as his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were losing to the New York Jets.

Antonio Brown’s NFL career took a turn for the worse as after quitting he was cut from the Tamba Bay Buccaneer’s roster.

After having a heated discussion with Head Coach Bruce Arians, and being in the midst of the Bucs being down 14 to the New York Jets in the third quarter, Brown had enough. He took off his shirt and jersey, threw his shirt into the stands, and ran across the field throwing up a peace sign.

Brown’s teammate Mike Evans tried to calm the receiver down prior to his exit, to no avail.

FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Buccaneer’s head coach Bruce Arians asked Brown to go back into the game, which he refused.

After Brown’s exit, he posted on multiple social media platforms that he is a “Super Gremlin,” a term taken from the Kodak Black hit song title and used throughout today’s youth. He also, later that Sunday, released his new song, “Pit Not the Palace.”

Brown was eight catches, fifty-five receiving yards, and one touchdown away from receiving an accumulated bonus of around $1 million.

By walking off the field this Sunday, Brown left behind a potential million dollars, however, it does not seem that the financial effect is taking quite the toll on him as he was seen courtside at the Brooklyn Nets vs Memphis Grizzlies game the following day.

There have been rumors of Antonio Brown suffering from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a term used to describe brain degeneration likely caused by repeated head traumas. Some symptoms of CTE include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, aggression, and depression.

This rare disorder has been found in the brains of many former NFL players who have taken such abnormal actions including former NFL New England Patriot Arron Hernandez. Although people may show signs, CTE can only be diagnosed in an after-death brain tissue analysis which means, sadly, whoever has it will never truly know.

It is unclear whether Antonio Brown will play another down of professional football, as he has had multiple allegations against him for several different crimes, but this is not the first time his actions were seen and a comeback was made.
