The Juwan Howard Saga

Josh Hoerner, Author

There is no doubt that Juwan Howard is a great basketball coach. He has done a lot for the University of Michigan.  However, after his incident this weekend, his status as Michigan’s coach is questionable. He has been suspended by the university for the rest of the season. Howard punched a Wisconsin assistant, resulting in a huge brawl after a game on Sunday, February 20th. Let’s take a look at a few things factoring in this decision:

The incident itself is a terrible look for the University of Michigan. Howard was completely out of line in this situation. Although the game was over, Wisconsin took a timeout to keep possession. However, Michigan was pressing, which also wasn’t necessary. Therefore, Juwan Howard’s actions were extremely unnecessary. His actions caused him to be suspended for the remainder of the season.

Coach Howard will not be fired. I don’t believe that he should be. Although this incident is a terrible look on the University and its basketball program, he is lucky that he only got the suspension. Maybe he should look into some anger management classes, but I am sure the university will figure that out when the time comes.
