Robotics Competition
In October, the New Castle High School Applied Robotics class went to Grove City College to participate in the Best Robotics Competition. The purpose of the competition was make a fire proof robot. The robot you submitted to the competition goals was to get as many toxic cans possible and to save “Manni” the mannequin and put out as much of the fire as possible.
Schools that participated had to create robots that were 24 inches by 24 inches. Also the robot could not be more than twenty four pounds. While participating, competitors were not permitted to enter their opponents space. In addition, they were not permitted to make any contact with other robots.
Scoring for the event was as follows:
120 points possible for rescuing “Manni”
180 points for the rescue bonus
150 points for flame extinguishing
120 points for the chemical drums (toxic cans)
30 points for control of the fire
Total: 600 points
This was New Castle’s first year participating in the Best Robotics Competition. Although, the team did not qualify this year, Mr. Dado is looking forward to next year’s competition.
