An Interview with Mr. Croach

Jack Stalnecker, Author

We are moving ever closer to the start of the new track season, so I asked some questions to the head coach of the boy’s track team, Mr. Croach.

Question: When does track and field start this season?

Mr. Croach: The track season starts March 6th and Conditioning will start February 20th.

Question: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season?

Mr. Croach: I am really looking forward to another successful season.  Hopefully, we can make it our 7th consecutive section title.  We have a lot of returning athletes (Most of our distance team), several returning sprinters, and a very good 4×100 relay team returning.

Question: How long have you been coaching track and field?

Mr. Croach: I have been coaching track for more than 20 years… I have been the Boy’s Head Track Coach here at New Castle for the past 10 years (since 2012).  In those 10 years, the team has 7 Section Championships, 89-5 overall record (94% wins), 27 scholarships, 113 WPIAL Qualifiers, 7 State Qualifiers, 7 broken school records, and a winning streak of 61 dual meets in a row (Since April 2015).

Question:  What inspired you to be a track and field coach?

Mr. Croach: My father inspired me the most to become a track coach.  He was a great teacher, a great coach, a great father, and my all-time hero…  I hope one day I am that for my students and my own kids.

Question: What is your favorite part of being the coach for the track and field team?

Mr. Croach: My favorite part of being a track coach is being able to watch students/athletes get better and succeed from the hard work they put forth every day at practice.

Thanks for the interview Mr. Croach! Good luck in the Spring. We will be checking back in the Spring, to see how the season is going.
