I had the privilege of sitting down with our new Senior high principal here at the New Castle, Mr. VanEmen. I hope you enjoy getting to know him!
Where were you born?
- New Castle, PA in 1984
Where did you go to college?
- I went to Slippery Rock for my teaching degree and I went to Duquesne for my administrative degree.
What degree do you have?
- Elementary and Educational leadership
How has being principal been so far?
- It has been the best job so far and it is full of opportunities. The kids are very interested in learning. This by far has been my favorite job.
What is a challenge you face being a principal?
- I want to grow this school academically and in attendance, that is where I am starting right now. Also, my wife and I are expecting our 6th child so we will see what life holds here personally as well.
What made you want to be a school principal?
- When I was a teacher in a classroom I had ideas that I wanted to share with teachers and I wanted that leadership role, to help lead a school.
How do you manage your own time?
- First, I make sure everything at work is managed and then I make sure everything at home is managed. It is sometimes a difficult task, but when everything is taken care of, it all works out. I like to play guitar in my free time. I also play in a band. Another activity I like to do is fly fish.
