Mr. Lee’s theater arts class is going on a field trip to see The Wiz on Wednesday, November 1st.
The Wiz is a 1978 American musical directed by Sidney Lumet. It reimagines the 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with an African-American twist.
The Wiz is about a Harlem school teacher Dorothy who tries to save her dog from a storm. She miraculously is whisked away to an urban fantasy land called Oz. After accidentally killing the Wicked Witch of the East upon her arrival, Dorothy is told about the Wiz, a wizard who can help her get back to Manhattan.
We get to experience this awesome musical in Mr. Lee’s theatre arts class.
In Mr. Lee’s theater arts class, we learn more about theater and its history. We get to watch plays and write personal reviews on them. We get to express our feelings and our views of each play. Theater is an expressive and fun art. Directors get to take a play and put a twist on it. It is very enjoyable and exciting. Having this theatre class opened my eyes to experiencing different perspectives that I may not be aware of or even contemplated.
