Hey Canes I had the opportunity to sit down with Junior Kaevon Gardner to chat about the upcoming track season and how his year is going. Check out his interview below! Thanks for reading!
Q:How many and what records have broke? What event did you receive your ring in?
A: I’ve broken 3 records. One for the 60 meter dash, one for the 100 meter dash in 8th grade, and then one for the 100 meter dash again in 10th grade. I received the ring for the 100 meter in 10th grade
Q: What does training for you consist of?
A: I have rack workouts Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays, but Tuesday and Friday I go to Grossetti’s. This is really just strength training and slight agility training. On Saturday I practice block sprints and running form while I’m sore. This helps me get better every day.
Q: How do you keep yourself motivated?
A: I hate losing more than I love winning. so the hate of losing keeps me going.
Q: What is your fastest time? What is your goal this year?
A: My fastest time in the 100 was a 10.70. I am going to go for 10.69 then I will progress from there.
Q: What do you do in the offseason? Do you take days off?
A: I really don’t have an off season. I go all week and take a recovery day if I think it’s needed which is usually Sunday.
Q: What events do you participate in?
A: The 100, 200, long jump, and the 4 by 1 relay.
Q: How do you push your teammates who are struggling?
A: I remind them of their goals to inspire the fear of not reaching then. I try to give them a little moral boost to run harder every practice.
Q: Do you hope to continue in college?
A: Yes I do and I will. I am excited for that part in my life.
Thank you for your interview KG! Hope you have a wonderful Spring season! Check out the track and field team in the Spring!
