March Madness is exactly what is states. The NCAA Men’s basketball championship can go many ways. Last year there were many upsets including the 1 seed losing in the first round. Anything can happen! This year had a handful of upsets, but not as critical as last year.
The first upsets came when BYU lost to Duquesne. The Dukes shot 26/56 from the field knocking down 7 3-pt shots with the Cougars shooting 22/57 from the field knocking down 8 3-pt shots. Duquesne won the game 71-67
The second upset came when Oregon took down South Carolina. Oregon won 87-73 knocking down 12 more free throws and landing 3 more baskets compared to the Gamecocks.
The third upset came when Oakland took down 3-seeded Kentucky. This was the biggest upset of the tournament so far. The Golden Grizzlies landed 6 more 3-pt shots and barely snuck out the win 80-76. Gohlke had 32 points in the game leading his team to the victory.
The fourth upset came when Yale barely took down Auburn 78-76. The tigers landed 3 more shots then the Bulldogs, but made fewer 3pt shots and that made all the difference.
The next 2 upsets came when both 12 seeds won their games, with James Madison beating Wisconsin 72-61 and Grand Canyon beating Saint Mary’s 75-66.
Round 2 saw no upsets on day 1, but on day 2 Clemson beat Baylor 72-64. The Tigers beat the Bears in every shooting category in that game. That was the only upset in round 2 of March Madness. Round 3 starts on March 28th with Clemson vs. Arizona and hopefully we see some more upsets.
Thanks for reading Canes! Hopefully your bracket isn’t too busted after the first 2 rounds.
