Junior Varsity Football 2018
October 11, 2018
Are you aware that the New Castle Red Hurricanes had games on Saturdays too? The New Castle High School Junior Varsity Football Team does! The Junior Varsity program paves the way for the future Red Hurricane Football Team. The Junior Varsity team plays on Saturdays and consists of the younger players who may not shine on Friday nights. The team is led by Coaches Pat Cain, Tyrone Rice, Tim Perish, and Bill Humphrey. These players are being developed into top tier athletes for their varsity career.
The Junior Varsity team has many returning starters on both the offensive and defensive side of the football. On the offense, led by freshman quarterback Christopher Hood Jr., are returning starters Donny Cade (wide receiver), Domenic Sylvester (offensive line), and Lucas Prowell (offensive line). On the defensive side of the football, the returning starters are Allen Bradley (linebacker), and Gavin Joyce (safety).
Although there are many good things that had happened for the team, they also lost many players to the varsity team. Players going to the varsity team are as follows: Will Blackshear, Julian Klingensmith, Logan Gibson, Antonio Ryan. They were pulled up due to their outstanding performance in our first JV game. Will and Julian both play running back alongside Matt “Beans” Senchak and Josh “J.T.” Thomason. Julian is strong safety alongside free safety, Drew Cox. Logan Gibson is playing the guard spot on the offensive line and middle linebacker and Antonio Ryan is playing the tackle.
The young Red Hurricanes are currently 2-3 with a win against Shaler and West Mifflin, and losses to South Fayette, Blackhawk, and Beaver. They shut out Shaler’s offense and beat them 34-0. You can expect many more games like this from this young New Castle team. They are well balanced through both the team’s offense and defense. The team chemistry is impeccable, they work like a well-oiled machine. Let us all wish luck to both the New Castle Red Hurricane Varsity and Junior Varsity team, Go Canes!
