Meet the Powers

McKenzie Powers, Feature Editor

I was given the opportunity to meet up with the wonderful Mrs. Powers for an extensive interview.  Mrs. Powers has been a very positive influence for our students throughout her very work day.

Tell me a little bit about yourself?

My name is Kylea Tony Powers. I have been married for 19 years and have two daughters, McKenzie and Riley. Both of my daughters attend New Castle Senior High School where they take honors courses.

What are your favorite activities to do outside of school?

I like to go shopping, go to dinner with my friends, go to the beach, watch McKenzie play softball and Riley ride horses.

Have you always been interested in working at a school?

I have always been interested in working at a high school.

How long have you worked at the high school?

I have worked at the high school for nineteen years.

What is it like traveling from class to class?

It can be a little hectic at times, but I enjoy doing it. I get to see different kids every day.

Why did you become an aide?

I became an aide because I love to help kids learn and for them to become successful in their life.

Is it more difficult being an aide?

It can be difficult at times because some of the students try to test us and our patience. Other than that, being an aide is not that difficult.

Have you ever been in a situation where your skills as an individual, rather than a teacher aide were tested?

I have never been in a situation where my skills as an individual were tested.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself hopefully being retired in 5 years.

Was there there a teacher or an aide that inspired you to to become an aide when you were younger?

There wasn’t a teacher or an aide that inspired me to become a teacher. I just love helping out kids.
