On December 25th 0f each year people throughout the United States and the world celebrate the Christmas  holiday. Christmas originated in 336 during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine who was the first Christian Roman Emperor on December 25th. . In the early 1800’s, Christmas was celebrated on December 25th in theUnited States. However, it became a federal holiday in 1870. Christians believe that Jesus is the light of the world, so the early Christians thought that this was the right time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. They also took over some of the customs from the Winter Solstice and gave them Christian meanings, like Holly, Mistletoe and even Christmas Carols! Christmas is celebrated by receiving gifts or presents just like when Jesus received the three gifts on December 25th. Families find this time of year joyous and usually feast on delicious food, and it’s also when long-distance families meet and have good times. Families come together for special occasions like the Christmas holiday. On behalf of the Eye of the Hurricane Staff, we hope everyone has a  Merry Christmas and Happy NewYear!
