Christmas Shopping Has Changed

Christmas Shopping Has Changed

Owen Ciavarino-Richard

The holiday season is one of the happiest times of the year for the majority of people. This time of year brings family gatherings, great food, and what most people look for, Christmas presents. Shopping is done in so many different ways, which may include online, done by a friend, going to the mall, and many other ways. With the many developments in modern technology, and the way us as humans have adapted, online shopping is the main use of shopping nowadays. However, with the strong and very contagious COVID-19 disease many shops have closed down, or have implemented a restriction on the amount of people that are allowed in the store. This is why holiday shopping has severely changed this year, and the many people that mainly shopped in-store have now switched to online because they do not want to take the risks that COVID provides. This may change the way that shopping is done in the future. Those who have done the majority, or all of their shoppin in-store, may have now realized how convenient, and easy online shopping is. The consumer never has to leave their house to shop, they can make orders from many different stores, and they can receive exclusive offers that they would not be able to receive if they were shopping in the store itself. A numerous amount of consumers have stated that they will be shopping online this holiday season to avoid any chance of contracting the COVID-19 disease. The biggest stocking stuffers this year included facemasks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes, which is completely different from years’ past. One of the hottest times of the year recently was cyber Monday. The numerous amount of deals being provided was simply too great to pass on for the majority of consumers. Also, many more families have struggled to provide gifts for their families this year due to the shutdown and closure of the jobs. The amount of income that they made this year has most likely decreased from their previous years of working,  just for the simple fact that COVID quite possibly shut down their job for an extended period of time. This also led to hundreds, if not thousands of people working more than one job, or more hours than they normally would just to support their families, and pay their bills. Covid has changed the way the simplest tasks are completed. The alteration of life that COVID put upon us, may become the new normal in the future, especially when it comes to shopping.
