Self care is the practice of responsibly taking care of oneself. It is commonly mistaken for “selfish,” but it should never be compared to selfish as the two have nothing in common. Self care should be part of the everyday routine. This article will contain multiple ways to start your own self care routine and explain the purpose of it. 

The most important thing that deals with self care is to hydrate yourself; you can not get anything done if you are dehydrated. Drink water! The morning is what most people dread- the idea of self care is to add a little spice to the normal routines. An idea is to start a journal. Journal down the ideas for today, what to get done, how you want to feel, how you feel, and more. As the day goes on add more to the journal and reflect on it to see if you could change anything to add more happiness to your life. 

The biggest self care tip being a high school student and soon going to college is to take breaks! Take a break from the world when it is needed. Everyone needs breaks; it is good to push yourself but not to the point where you are exhausted, which leads to the next idea: sleep. Sleep is very important for the body and mind. If you feel tired, take a nap. A nap may not be a permanent solution for the problems you are facing but it can help ease the body and mind. 

The last biggest self care tip is to have a proper diet. A diet is not what they are made up to be. Eating McDonald’s, chips, ice cream, and desserts is fine. You just need to make sure to get the proper amount of nutrition and the right amount of food intake that works best for you. It does not have to be considered a diet but it is how to keep the body and mind healthy. Our bodies go as well as we work with them too. Exercise is also a big part in self care- not everyday hard exercises but enough to keep the body moving and going. 

Self care should have a certain day in your weekly routine to focus on the healing of your mind and spirit. Self care is important to everyone, and it should be practiced a lot more than it is.
