Need somewhere fun to go over Winter Break or this holiday season with family? The beautiful outdoor ice rink at the PPG Place in downtown Pittsburgh is open daily now through February 28th! From Sunday to Thursday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to Midnight during their holiday hours.  The rink is open even on major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Martin Luther King Day! The ice rink first opened in December 2001 marking this December their 21st year anniversary. The PPG Place covers a six-block section of downtown, the rink is set upright in the middle. The rink was replaced with a new larger ice rink for the 2015-16 season and this year they have brought in a new 60-foot Christmas tree. This tree has around 103,200 lights and thousands of huge ornaments. The PPG tree also has a sophisticated computer programming system to play music to go along with the lights, which is so cool!
