Are paper books better than E-books?

Maryn Sylvester, Senior Author

I bet there was a time in your life when you walked into a Barns & Noble and wanted to buy so many books. So you buy some, bring them home, and are so excited to start reading. But after a few chapters you set the book down, and then don’t pick it up again until you’re doing your weekly cleaning and just put it on your bookshelf. Then the process keeps repeating and repeating until you have a grand library in your living room. You now realize how much money and space you are wasting and just give up—I for one am definitely guilty of this. But throughout the past few years more and more books are being published as E-books. Some people think it is really convenient, but others like the old fashion hardcover better. In some cases, a physical copy of the book can be excellent. For instance, in school for an assignment or you cant have access to your device to read, on an airplane with no WIFI, or if your device is dead.

But in my opinion, I believe E-books are better than paper books, and here is why. Today, technology is more booming than ever, so everything is on some sort of device, whether it be school or work. This means not many things are printed on paper anymore. Everything can be accessed on any device you may have, and that usually includes books. You typically can access any book you desire, unless there is not a digital copy. Usually, when authors produce their books, they now sell digital copies as well. You can buy them on the Apple book store, Audible, and more. They sell all types of books, anything from fiction to real-life textbooks they use in schools. All you have to do is click a button and boom you own it. Another perk would be the price. An average book costs between $10-$29.99. Most E-books are a fraction of the price. You have the book right there whenever you needed, the spot you left off is saved, and you don’t have to worry about losing it or carrying a bunch of books at once. Another great perk of E-books is how many you can have at once. Say you need around 3 textbooks for a class, a notebook to take notes, and a book for you to read in your free time. Instead of having to carry all those books, you can download them all onto a device and only have to carry that instead. A cool feature that works well with Ipads or tablets is the notebook apps you can purchase. With the use of some sort of stylus or pen, you can take notes right on your Ipad and they’re all saved right there for you to access whenever you need them.

Overall, there could be multiple reasons why regular books are better or the other way around. But, these are the reasons I and many others believe E-books are better. They’re better for the environment, better priced, and easier to transport multiple at once.
