Miami, FL — During the practice session, Bubba Wallace’s fill-in driver, John Hunter Nemechek, was the fastest in the session, setting a lap time of 32.299 seconds. However, he was only 4th in the qualifying session. William Byron (P) set his car on pole position with a 32.454-second lap. Byron is able to keep the lead from the no. 20 of Christopher Bell (P) on lap 1. On lap 27, the no. 5 of Kyle Larson would take the lead but only 3 laps later, the no. 45 of John Hunter Nemechek would spin off turn 2 and back into the inside wall. The no. 24 of William Byron (P) gets the lead back under pit stops and restarts in 1st on lap 32. Kyle Larson gets it back on lap 38 and would hold on to it until the stage end on lap 80. Lap 88 restarted and Kyle Larson leads the field to green to begin the stage. Green flag pit stops would cycle though and Kyle Larson is unmatched, leading by 8 seconds. On lap 160, the no. 14 of Chase Briscoe would hit the wall off turn 2 and bring out the caution. NASCAR would call this the stage caution and, on lap 165, Kyle Larson would cross the finish line and win stage 2. Larson would lead on the restart. During green flag pit stops, the no. 12 of Ryan Blaney would spin in turn 1 and bring out the caution. Kyle Larson would be forced to pit under caution since he is yet to make his pit stop. Others include nos. 11, 99, 4, 16, 3, 6, 20, 47, 17. The no. 19 of Martin Truex Jr. would lead on the lap 217 restarts. However, the no. 11 of Denny Hamlin (P) would take the lead only a few turns into the restart. Martin would get the lead back on lap 221. On lap 236, Kyle Larson has made his way back up to 2nd place. The no. 8 of Tyler Reddick would spin on the back straightaway and bring out the caution on lap 245. During pit stops, Larson and Truex Jr. would make contact on pit road, causing the no. 19 to spin into his pit box. All crew members were able to get away from the spinning car and no one was hit. His pit stop was performed, and he was sent back out onto the race track. Larson would lead the field to green on lap 254 and he would be unmatched and we would cross the finish line on lap 267 to win at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race would take 3 hours, 5 minutes, and 24 seconds to complete at an average speed of 129.612 miles per hour. 5 cautions for 30 laps, 0 red flags, and 11 lead changes among 5 different drivers.
