What is Forensics!!!

Jack Buzzard, Feature Writer

Individuals and teams have been competing in Forensic competitions since the 1900’s.  Forensics challenge and advance the argumentative and advocacy skills of its competitors. The American Forensic Association or AFA helps advance college students with their public speaking skills. On the other hand, the National Forensic League works with middle and high schoolers with developing their speech and debate skills; they believe being a great communicator will lead to a successful future. In the United States, organized debate can be traced back to the Lincoln – Douglas contests of the 1850’s. In 1930, the National Forensic League created and held the first national high school forensics competition. Thirty Six years later the American Forensic Association held the first forensic tournament  at the collegiate level. Some famous debaters are Ted Turner, Oprah Winfrey, and Renee Zellweger.
