Kennywood a Great Summer Tradition

Kennywood a Great Summer Tradition

As summer has become a reality, I highly recommend a trip to Kennywood Park this season.  Kennywood has a long and famous history as one of the first and best theme parks in the United States.

Kennywood was founded in 1989  as a small trolley park and was started by the Monongahela Street railway Company which was under the financial control of Andrew Mellon.   At the begining of the twentieth century  competition was fierce. Therefore, the business strategy was changed to make certain that Kennywood would survive.  The park built many attractions in the early part of the century (The Racer, Jack Rabbit, and two large roller coasters).

During the depression and World War II the park survived with the addition of Noarh’s Ark,  as well as, a refurbished train and ferris wheel.  The Park prospered in the 1950’s, 1960’s and  1970’s.  Some of the attractions built during this time were:  Hurricane, Rotor, Thunderbolt and the Wild Mouse.

The amusement park industry changed in the 1980’s and 1990’s with the introduction of the Raging Rapids and the Steel Phantom.  Advanced technology and faster rides lead to unlimited excitement and success.  The park continues to add major attractions and still continues many of its traditions.  Kennywood is know for their unique food choices   and wholesome family entertainment.  Make sure to spend a great day at the park during the Summer of 2018!!!    Make certain that you check out the Sky Rocket Coaster and Thomas Town  which will add to your experience in enjoying Kennywood.
