Today I am interviewing a student athlete of New Castle Senior High School, Gabriel “Gabe” Coonfare. Gabe is a sixteen years old student on the New Castle Wrestling team.

What age did you start wrestling and why did you decide you wanted to?
Gabe: "I started wrestling around fourteen or fifteen. I chose to wrestle because
it was a new sport and I was interested."

Does it take up a lot of your time?
Gabe: "Yes it's very time consuming."

Do you ever get nervous before a match? If you do, what do you do to calm yourself?
Gabe:"No,meanwhile most people do get nervous, I however know I am pushing myself past my
limits to be the best."

What is one of your favorite positions?
Gabe:"My two favorite moves are the hip toss and the firearm's carry."

Does any of your coaches or any other student inspire you as a wrestler?
Gabe: "Yes,Mr. Geemer is one of the most inspirational people I know.
I wouldn't be where I am now without him."

What qualities do you think a student athlete should have her in New Castle?
Gabe: "To always stay positive and do not stop trying. There will always be others
out there doing exactly what you are doing, it's up to you to push yourself past your own
limits and to continue to go further."

Even the best of the best take a loss, what do you do after you take one?
Gabe: "I pick myself back up, shake my opponents hand, tell him that he did a great job
then, I go back to the mat and continue training."

How do you feel after a victory?
Gabe:"I feel amazing.It is a great feeling."

Is there any tips you would give the younger students that want to join the New Castle wrestling team?
Gabe:"When you get knocked down, stand back up, and keep trying. Never quit."

While interviewing Gabriel I found out that he is a hard working student as well
as an athlete. Gabe has been an honor roll student throughout his high school career.
Gabe is currently in eleventh grade. He is also a member of the national honors society,
which is students that have a consistent 3.6 GPA or higher during their high school
career.
