The New Castle Red Hurricane Varsity Wrestling Team is officially taking on their second year as a varsity program. Up until last year, New Castle hasn’t had a varsity program since 1986. Unfortunately, the program lost two very influential seniors in Alex Kotch, who went to basic training and recently became a Marine. The other senior Queasean Napier, who went to Thiel University, is participating in both football and wrestling. Unfortunately there will be no seniors on the wrestling team this season.

Thankfully, we are expecting some talent coming from the Jr. High Wrestling team. Jonah Miller and Jacob Taylor are both wrestlers coming from the Jr. High Program who made it to the PIAA State tournament last year. On top of that, Juniors Stone Miller and Micah Killion made it to the WPIAL tournament last season. Another positive asset returning is Cameron Boyce who was faced with a season ending knee injury last season. These wrestlers along with the rest of the wrestlers will help to build a thriving program.

The returning wrestlers on the team are as follows, Stone Miller, Dante Mangeri, Isaac King, Cameron Boyce, Anthony Eckanroad, Gavin Joyce, Noah Shields, Gabe Koonfare, and Micah Killion. The wrestling team hopes to send more and more wrestlers to the WPIAL and even the State tournaments this winter. The program is growing every year, setting the foundation for the future generations. The team is looking for new athletes to come out and participate in the sport at any and all times. If you have any question about joining the wrestling team go see Coach Domonico in the gym ASAP.
