Senioritis

Senioritis

What is Senioritis? Senioritis is a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance. However, it is now showing in younger students as well. They are now making up new slang words such as junioritis, sophomoritis, even freshman-itis. Honestly, this illness can spread from kid to kid because they begin to peer pressure their friends into staying home from school and hang out and do other things that sound ¨more fun” than going to boring high school. Most friend groups have other friends outside of their group and tell them ¨it is okay to miss school sometimes, as long as you keep your grades up it doesn’t matter.¨ once you get into the habit of staying home you lose your motivation and fall behind and grades begin to decrease. Some people may think this is an untrue illness until you experience the lack of not wanting to go. The lack of motivation your grades begin to decrease and now you’re falling behind because you’re failing and missing more and more school. I’ve read many articles that included statistics of how many students have senioritis that isn’t even seniors yet which were a large percent. On the website http://www.nhsomniscient.com/2012/03/23/senioritis-78-percent-of-seniors-say-they-have-it-but-is-it-real/ and it is a 78% that have agreed that they have senioritis.
