New Castle legendary basketball coach Don Ross passed away on December 21, 2019. Mr. Ross was a graduate of Slippery Rock University. After graduation, Mr. Ross began teaching at New Castle Senior High School. Mr. Ross taught both Physical Education and Drivers Education. Mr. Ross was the basketball coach at a New Castle High school for twenty years. Under Coach Ross, the Canes won the WPIAL Basketball Championship in 1982. In addition to coaching basketball for over thirty years, Mr. Ross also coached baseball for eleven years at New Castle High School.
