I had the opportunity to sit down with our new Jr. High Principal, Ms. Wright, to get to know her and see how her school year is going.
Where were you born?
Pittsburgh, PA
Where did you go to college?
Indiana University of Pennsylvania(Undergraduate degree) and Westminster College (Master’s Degree )
What degrees do you have?
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Education
How has it been being a principal so far?
It has been very rewarding to help encourage and support students to reach their full potential, while getting to know them and their families through parent and family engagement. I also get the opportunity to lead and support teachers.
What is a challenge you face while being a principal?
As a principal I wear many hats; for example, I am responsible for the management of the building, staff and students, an instructional leader and attending activities beyond the regular school day. There are so many facets to being a principal so I have to ensure that I manage my time well and prioritize which can be a challenge when there’s only so many hours in a day and everything seems to be a priority
What made you want to be a school principal?
Since I was a child, I always wanted to be a teacher. I love working with children. Junior High through my senior year in high school, I was Class President. At the time, I did not know that being in that leadership role was preparing me for my position as a principal. I believe that I was destined to be a leader.
Thank you for the interview Ms. Wright. We are glad you are here at New Castle Jr./Sr. High. Hope you have a great rest of the year.
