The Red Hurricanes won their twelfth WPIAL Championship on March 3rd at the Peterson Event Center.  The Canes defeated Quaker Valley Quakers by a score of 57-52.  This win was Coach Blundo’s 5th WPIAL Championship in the last eight years.   The Canes entered the postseason winners of eight straight and seeded second in this year’s tournament.

The Canes defeated South Fayette and Belle Vernon to reach the WPIAL title game for the second straight season.  Coming into the WPIAL championship as underdogs the Canes confidence and resilient defense let to this fantastic moment.  The Canes were led by seniors Marcus Hooker, Georgie Eggleston,  Carrington Smith and Lorenzo Gardner.  Lorenzo led the Canes in scoring with a team-high 15 points.  This was the second year in a row that New Castle defeated Quaker Valley for the WPIAL championship. The Red Hurricanes had a great run in the PIAA State Tournament as of losing against Sharon 53-42 in the Elite 8.
