NC Pride was formed in spring 2017 by Eva Grace Ashbaugh, a New Castle graduate and current Temple University freshman. With the help of teachers, Mr. Lubin, Ms. Beck, and Mrs. Ondako, New Castle Pride was formed as a “safe space” for all students to discuss social issues and provide advice to each other.

In order to continue the success of the group this school year without Eva Grace’s guidance, the students decided to elect “leaders” for the junior and senior class members of the group. Junior students selected their peers, Amanda Arvelo and Alexis Gish, as Junior Leaders. Seniors chose their peers, Mia Esoldo and Ian Frost, as Senior Leaders. These student leaders work together to organize the weekly meetings and draft the agendas for the meetings.

“I feel that being a Junior Representative makes me an overall better person and a better student,” says Junior Leader, Amanda Arvelo.

NC Pride holds hour-long weekly meetings every Wednesday after school, lasting from 2:30PM to 3:30PM. So far, this year, the group has convened to discuss topics of mental health, goal-setting, time management, goal achievement, self-love, and more.
